WHAT KIND OF ACCESS WILL I HAVE TO MY DOCTOR?
Upon registration, Desert Sage Internal Medicine will provide you with a Patient Membership Card containing your physicians mobile number (call + texting) and email address. This will enable you to contact your doctor during and after business hours.
Will my exam time increase?
Yes. Unless determined unnecessary, the duration of a physician's examination of you will be extended to allow for a more comprehensive and thorough review of your health and wellness.
What can I expect if I am admitted to a hospital?
Dr. Dowell and Dr. Irwin have courtesy privileges at Oro Valley Hospital. This means they can coordinate care, either onsite or remotely, by advocating on their patient's behalf. They do not have the authority to "write orders" directly.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME TO BE A PATIENT AT DESERT SAGE internal medicine?
Below is a breakdown of the ANNUAL membership fees:

When and how will I be required to pay the membership fee?
Patients will have the option of being billed annually or semi-annually, and paying either by check or credit/debit card.
Do I still need insurance as a patient at Desert Sage internal medicine?
Yes. Concierge medicine is not a substitute for insurance. You will still need to have health insurance to cover any hospitalizations, medications, specialist visits, diagnostic tests, or other healthcare services. We will be happy to refer you to an insurance representative.
Will my insurance cover the cost of the annual membership fee?
No. Neither Medicare nor any other insurance provider will pay or reimburse you for the Annual Membership Fee.
What insurance does Desert Sage internal medicine accept?
Medicare or Medicare + Supplement (aka Gap Coverage)
Private Insurer Policy PPO: although we accept patients with commercial insurance for individuals younger than 65, we are not contracted with these payers. Deductibles will apply.

Will Desert Sage Internal Medicine bill my insurer directly?
If a Patient is or becomes Medicare eligible, the following terms apply. Patient acknowledges that Practice is a participating Medicare provider. Due to federal regulations, if Patient is Medicare eligible, then claims will be submitted to Medicare for all Medicare-covered services provided to Patient by Practice. Patient shall not submit to Medicare any claim for payment of Program Fees or request that Practice submit such a claim. Patient acknowledges and understands that Medicare will not pay for the Services referenced in Schedule A.

What do I do when I need to see a specialist?
When medically necessary, your physician will refer you to, and provide suggestions for, seeing a specialist for further examination and/or treatment. The membership fee does not cover your cost for seeing a specialist, but your physician will remain in contact with them to coordinate the care you receive.
